What We Believe

Our mission is to help you Know God, Live Free, Find Purpose, and Make a Difference.

God as Trinitarian

God is three coeternal consubstantial persons - or hypostases (ὑπόστασις) - that are distinct yet are of a single divine essence - or homoousios (ὁμοούσιος). The three Persons being God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit. (Matthew 3:16-17)

Christ as Lord and Redeemer

Jesus Christ is God incarnate in humankind - the hypostatic (ὑπόστασις) union of Divine essence and human essence. St. John explains that God the Son can also be called the Word - or logos (λόγος) - and that Word became flesh. The life, death and resurrection of Christ has given us first hand access to the free gift of Grace. (John 1:1)

The Scriptures

Our ancient text - the Christian Bible - is given by the inspiration of God and is our ultimate guide for doctrine, correction, and training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16; ; 2 Peter 1:21)

Humankind, the Fall and Redemption

Humankind is a created being, made in the likeness and image of God. Because of Adam and Eve’s transgression and fall, sin and evil have come into the world. However, because of the life, death and resurrection of Christ, humanity has been offered redemption from its sin. Salvation is the gift of God to humankind - separate from works and the law - and is made operative by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8)

Water Baptism

Baptism in water is a beautiful way to outwardly express what is happening on the inside. Full immersion in the water represents being surrounded by sin - what it is like to live life without God - and the coming up out of the water represents your coming into newness of life with Christ, in a similar way that he was raised into new life out of the grave. (Romans 6:4)

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

At WHWC we believe in the active practice of all the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are always meant to edify the congregation and are not meant to make anyone uncomfortable. (1 Corinthians 12)
